The United States defeated the Dominican Republic 6-3 Saturday night, ending the Dominicans’ bid to become repeat champions of the World Baseball Classic.
The U.S. now face Japan in the semifinals Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, and the winner gets the survivor of the Puerto Rico-Netherlands matchup.
Behind the strength of a monstrous home run by Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton, along with the catch by Baltimore Orioles center fielder Adam Jones to rob another, the U.S. was able to erase a 2-0 deficit to advance.
Jones’ catch took away a homer from the bat of Orioles teammate Manny Machado in the seventh inning.
The semi-final berth is America’s second since the origination of the WBC.
