This is truly something you don’t see everyday. In his first at-bat as a Yankee, Todd Frazier came to the plate with the bases loaded. He hit a sharp line drive that one hopped to the short stop. Since the runners feared the shortstop catching it on the fly, it caused some confusion on the base pads.
Matt Holiday scored on the play after force outs were made at first and second. However, then Didi Gregorius got caught up in a pickle and was tagged out resulting in a triple play. It was the second 6-3-5-6 triple play and the first RBI triple play in over a decade.
I’m sure Frazier was hoping that his first at-bat in pinstripes wouldn’t be a triple play but at least he got an RBI so it’s not all bad.
