From 2009 to 2013 Joe Smith was a productive setup man for the Cleveland Indians. Now, he’ll be heading from Toronto back to Cleveland on this busy deadline Monday.
Smith has been a reliable reliever over the course of his career, although he’s striking batters out at a career-high pace this season (12.87 K/9). He’s the second pitcher to be traded by the Blue Jays today, with Francisco Liriano going to Houston.
Can confirm that Indians are sending LHP Thomas Pannone and 2B Samad Taylor to Toronto for Joe Smith. Neither on CLE’s @MLBPipeline Top 30.— Jordan Bastian (@MLBastian) July 31, 2017
