Matt Harvey will log his first start with the Cincinnati Reds against the reigning N.L. Pennant winning, Los Angeles Dodgers.
Often times labeled as The Dark Knight, Harvey’s promising career took a drastic hit after his decision to stay in Game 5, in the 2015 World Series, cost the Mets against the Royals, who won the series in five.
The next season, Harvey struggled out of the gate and never really recovered. Over his final two seasons with the Mets, he was booed off the mound frequently, most recently, this season against the Atlanta Braves after coming on in relief. He was asked by Sandy Alderson to play in the minors for awhile, but refused. Shortly after, he was designated for assignment and traded to the Reds for catcher, Devin Mesoraco.
“After today I’d like to not talk about my past experiences with the Mets,” Harvey said. “So, I’d like to move forward with my new organization and do everything I can to help them. Overall, there was a lot of good times. I have a lot of good friends on that team and will for a long time.”
Harvey will look to help the Reds who currently have the worst record in the National League at 11-27.
