Robinson Cano of the Seattle Mariners has broken a bone in his right hand. The injury comes after being hit by a pitch from Detroit Tigers lefty Blaine Hardy. Utility infielder Andrew Romine came in to replace Cano after he went down. The Mariners have not released a statement on the time table of Cano’s injury.
The second baseman was having another solid season for the Mariners. Batting .287, with four homers, and 23 runs batted in. The eight-time All-star is one of the best at his position in the MLB on both offense and defense. So the Mariners will have to look to other players to step up in his absence.
Seattle is firmly in the mix for AL West, sitting only 1.5 games behind the division leading Houston Astros. The club is also looking to erase their 16-season playoff drought. Not making the postseason since winning an MLB record 116 games in 2001.
