San Francisco Giants pitcher Johnny Cueto will have Tommy John surgery Thursday, effectively ending his 2018 campaign. The surgery will likely force the 32-year-old to miss a large portion of the 2019 season as well.
The right-hander was having a solid season with a 3-2 record, 3.23 ERA, and 38 strikeouts in 53 innings pitched. However, he is winless since returning from a two month stint on the disabled list with an elbow injury. Cueto missed time last year with injuries, while his numbers also took a dip from his 2016 campaign in which he was 18-5, posted a 2.79 ERA, and was named an All-Star for the second time in his career.
The Giants are currently 55-54 and 4th in the NL West, the club is 5 games back from the Diamondbacks for the second Wild-card spot.
