According to ESPN’s Mark Stein via his Twitter account early this morning, the Indiana Pacers are making a late move to get into the Shawn Marion conversation. While the Cleveland Cavaliers are still the most likely landing spot for the veteran big man, Larry Bird and Pacers management have reportedly reached out to Marion’s representatives to express their interest in signing him.
Cleveland still appears to be the most likely landing spot for Marion, but Indiana is intriguing. When assessing the situation as a whole, the deal would make sense from the Pacers’ perspective, especially if they can negotiate a two-year deal with Marion. With Paul George out for the season, Marion does not make a ton of sense in a win-now scenario this upcoming season for the Pacers, but would be a welcomed complement to Indiana in the second year of a deal with George back healthy and the Pacers closer to competing.
