Bulls, Knicks Complete Trade Sending Derrick Rose To New York

The big NBA deals keep coming in, as another huge deal has been finalized. According to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, the Bulls are sending Derrick Rose, Justin Holiday, and a 2017 second-round pick in exchange for Robin Lopez, Jerian Grant, and Jose Calderon

Rose, 27, averaged 16.4 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game last season. The former MVP has battled injury after injury, but he played in 66 games last season (60+ games for the first time since the 2010-11 season). It remains to be seen if D-Rose can return to his old form, but a new start in the Big Apple could be exactly what he needs.

Holiday averaged 4.5 points per game last season, in just 14.6 minutes per game with the Bulls.

Lopez averaged 10.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game last season. The 28-year-old center being sent to the Bulls likely means that Chicago may be planning to not re-sign Pau Gasol or Joakim Noah

Grant in his rookie season averaged 5.6 points and 2.3 assists per game for the Knicks, but only played in 16.6 minutes per game. A fresh start in Chicago may be good for the 23-year-old.

On the other hand, Calderon at 34 years old has likely passed his prime, but still averaged 7.6 points and 4.1 assists for New York last season.

The huge storyline from this deal is clearly Derrick Rose heading to New York to join forces with Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis. The Knicks will likely look to puruse Joakim Noah, Pau Gasol, or Dwight Howard in free agency as well, so watch for the Knicks to make another huge splash.
