The trade rumors that have been circling about the Kings’ star center appear to be ending. It has been reported that DeMarcus Cousins intends to sign a deal that will keep him in Sacramento through the 2022-2023 season. It is estimated that the deal is worth $207 million over 5 years. The deal has not been signed yet, but both sides have appeared to agree on a dollar figure and length. The Kings’ plan on offering the deal during the offseason, and barring a change of heart from either side, it appears that Cousins will sign it.
Cousins signed a max contract in 2013 that is set to expire at the end of the 2017-2018 season, so it is smart for the Kings’ to lock him up before his contract year begins in the fall.
Cousins has been incredibly productive during his time with Sacramento, especially during the last few years where he has added a 3-point jump shot to his already impressive game. This season, he is averaging 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in 34.5 minutes per game.
