The NBA has scheduled two exhibition games between the Golden State Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves in China, set for October 5th and 8th. The games will be played at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai and in Shenzhen at the Shenzhen Universiade Center.
The Warriors have played in China twice before, in 2008 and 2013. Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant hold the second and fifth highest jersey sales in China and Klay Thompson holds an endorsement deal with Anta, a Chinese shoe company.
The Timberwolves also have some connections to China. A five percent stake in the franchise belongs to Double-Edged Sports founder, Jiang Lizhang. Lizhang became the first Chinese owner in NBA history when he bought a share of the Timberwolves this past summer.
Due to the games taking place in early October, the teams will open training camp a week earlier in preparation for the 2017-18 season.
