According to The Vertical’s Shams Charania , Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters will undergo knee surgery sometime in the next two weeks, effectively ending his season. Waiters has received second opinions before making his final decision. His recovery time is four to six months.
Sources: Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters is expected to undergo season-ending surgery on his injured left ankle. Waiters has received second opinions in Los Angeles to finalize decision, league sources said.— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) January 11, 2018
Waiters has been plagued with injuries all season, as he previously sprained his ankle December 23rd in a game against the Pelicans, causing him to miss the past eight games. The same ankle caused him trouble last season, as he missed the last 13 games of the regular season with a similar sprain.
Waiters recently signed a huge four-year, $52 million deal with Miami in the off-season after the Heat failed to lure in Gordon Hayward, which along with lost offensive production is a huge blow to Miami going forward.
Despite Waiters’ drop in production this season, Miami has won six straight games, and is currently sitting at fourth place in the Eastern Conference. Hopefully the Heat can keep the ball rolling without one of their best shooters.
