The University of Washington has hired Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins as their new head coach.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, Hopkins will sign a deal with the Huskies for six years.
Mike Hopkins played for Syracuse in college and has worked under current head coach Jim Boeheim since 1996. He was expected to be named head coach of the Syracuse basketball team once Boeheim retired.
“I can’t express enough thanks to Coach Boeheim for so many years of mentorship and guidance,” Hopkins said. “The timing is right for me and my family to make this move.”
Hopkins had been linked to numerous head coaching jobs the last few years, but after Washington fired head coach Lorenzo Romar earlier this week they decided to offer him the job.
