University of Texas sophomore guard Andrew Jones has been diagnosed with leukemia and has begun treatments, per a statement from his family released by the university.
The former high school Mcdonald’s All-American had missed time earlier in the season due to a wrist injury and was held out of Saturday’s conference matchup against Baylor due to an “unidentifiable illness.”
For the season, Jones is second on the Longhorns in scoring at 13.5 points per game and the most efficient player on the roster (min. 10 minutes a game). He flirted with the NBA Draft after his freshman season before heading back to school to improve his stock.
This is just horrible news, and the college basketball world has come around him in support. Here’s hoping Jones can come back better than ever.
