Division III Kicker With A “Field Goal” You’ve Never Seen Before

I’ve watched a lot of football in my 23 years on this earth and I’ve never seen something that happened this weekend. In a Division III match-up between Texas Lutheran and Belhaven University, TLU kicker Tyler Hopkins was brought in to attempt an 18 yard field goal.

The snap is off. The hold is down. The kick is off…and it’s BLOCKED

Here comes the crazy part. After the first field goal attempt is blocked, Hopkins takes a second whack at it and puts the ball through the uprights.

They awarded Texas Lutheran three points on the play. I have no clue if this play is illegal or not and frankly, I don’t care. It was a 37 point game and it was awesome. Kudos to you, Tyler, for your game awareness. I wonder if there will be an addendum made to the rule books for plays like this in the future.
