The Pittsburgh Steelers put outside linebackers coach Joey Porter on leave yesterday after he was arrested Sunday night on the south side of Pittsburgh at a local bar. He was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, and public drunkenness.
Porter was taken to the Allegheny County Jail and posted $25,000 bond early Monday morning and was released from jail. Head coach Mike Tomlin said at his weekly press conference today that this won’t be a distraction as the team prepares to play Kansas City in the Divisional round on Sunday.
Steelers players echoed that statement. David DeCastro said, “It’s one of those things where there’s no time for distractions.”
Mike Tomlin also said that if Joey Porter isn’t reinenstated by Sunday, defensive coordinator Keith Butler will coach the outside linebackers.
