Giants Fire Ben McAdoo, GM Jerry Reese

The New Yorks Giants cleaned house Monday morning following a 24-17 loss to the Oakland Raiders, firing head coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who is a former head coach of the St. Louis Rams, will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Assistant general manager Kevin Abrams will take over GM duties in place of Reese.

Giants’ President and CEO John Mara, who recently stated that the team would not make any coaching changes til after the season, commented on his decision to reverse course.

I changed my mind. To be honest with you, it became more and more apparent that we were going to have to do something at the end of the season.”

The Giants, who at 2-10 have already been eliminated from playoff contention, have struggled on both sides of the ball this season, on top of seeing several star players head to season-ending IR. Mara partly attributed the decision to the seasons outcome so far.

It’s really been a perfect storm this season. Everything that could have gone wrong has gone wrong so far this season.”

The decision to clean house comes shortly after the Giants made the controversial decision to bench quarterback Eli Manning this past Sunday for backup Geno Smith, but Mara said that the decision to replace the two-time Super Bowl MVP falls on him.

I certainly had the power to overrule it if I wanted to. I chose not to do it.”

Spagnuolo announced Monday evening that Manning would be back as starting quarterback for New York next week.

2017 has definitely been a roller coaster of a year for the Giants organization and their fans. Now with a clean slate, the organization can regroup and start building for the years to come.
