The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Saturday that they had come to terms on a six-year, $61 million extension with DE Stephon Tuitt running through the 2022 NFL season.
Tuitt, a second-round pick by Pittsburgh in the 2014 NFL Draft, has become a big part of their versatile defensive line. In his first three seasons, he has recorded 108 tackles and 11.5 sacks.
The Steelers felt they had to get this extension done, as they do not negotiate extensions during the season. Tuitt was set to be a free agent in 2018.
At 6‘7” and 313 lbs., the Notre Dame product is a mountain of a man coming off the edge. Even at his size, Tuitt is agile enough to consistently pressure opposing quarterbacks and is able to move around on the defensive line. The Steelers now have both defensive ends (Tuitt and Cameron Heyward) locked into long-term deals.
