In a shocking announcement today, The San Francisco 49ers have made their starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo the highest paid player in the NFL. Garoppolo signed a five year extension worth $137.5 million. The news was first reported by Raj Mathai of NBC Bay Area.

Garopollo is set to make $27.5 million next season. Matthew Stafford was the highest paid player as of yesterday. Stafford is making $27 million per year.

In six games with the 49ers, Garoppolo put up some monster number as he threw for 1,560 yards, seven touchdowns, and only five interceptions. Garopollo took a winless niners team and finished the season going 5-0 in games he starts. Earlier in the year Garoppolo was traded from the Patriots to the 49ers for a second-round pick.
