New England Patriots wide receiver, Julian Edelman, is facing a four game suspension for violating the league’s PED policy.
Patriots WR Julian Edelman is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance enhancing substances policy, league sources tell @FieldYates and me. Suspension is under appeal.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) June 7, 2018
More now on ESPN’s NFL Live.
Edelman missed the entire 2017-18 season after tearing his ACL in a preseason game in Detroit. He last played in Super Bowl 51 where he caught five passes for 87 yards, including a circus catch, in a comeback victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
In reference of the possible suspension, Edelman posted this on his Instagram story: ”I am very sorry — I don’t know what happened…..I’ve taken many, many tests obviously over the course of my career, and nothing like this has ever happened. I apologize to the Kraft family, my coaches, teammates and fans. As this matter is being appealed, I can’t say anymore but no matter what, I will be ready to play and pursue another championship with our team and for Patriots fans around the world.”
The suspension is currently under appeal and although rarely overturned, now 49ers cornerback, Richard Sherman, had his overturned in 2012 as a member of the Seahawks. If held up, the Patriots’ wide receiving corps would only boast four returners as Brandin Cooks was traded to the Los Angeles Rams and Danny Amendola left to join the Miami Dolphins.
Edelman would potentially miss contests against the Texans, Jaguars, Lions and Dolphins.
