Michy Batshuayi is set to miss the rest of the season, after sustaining an ankle injury in Dortmund’s weekend clash with Shalke. It was initially thought that he had fractured his ankle, but he has suffered severe ligament damage that will keep him out for the rest of the season.
Batshuayi joined Dortmund on loan from Chelsea after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left for Arsenal in January. He had been an immediate success in Germany scoring 9 goals in 14 games, and has saved them from losses multiple times already. Batshuayi has been one of the only high points in what has been a rough season for Dortmund and their fans.
Despite his good run of form, it is unlikely that Dortmund will keep Batshuayi after this season, allowing him to return to Chelsea after his loan expires. The 24-year old will not be short of suitors after he returns to Chelsea, due to Chelsea’s high volume of strikers. Batshuayi could still return in time for the World Cup this summer in Russia.
