Ronaldo fans will now have to start watching Serie A, as Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed to a deal that will take him to Turin, Italy. He is joining Juventus from Real Madrid where he spent nine years after he left Manchester United in 2009. Since joining, he has set countless records with the Spanish giants and will leave as their all-time top goal scorer with 451 goals. During his time in Spain, he won the Ballon D’Or in 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
A deal worth a reported £99.2m was agreed to between the two clubs, and it will keep the Portuguese star in Italy for four years.
“For Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo will always be one of the great symbols,” Real Madrid said in a public statement. “Real Madrid wants to express its gratitude to a player who has proved to be the best in the world and who has marked one of the brightest times in the history of our club and world football. Real Madrid will always be your home.”
Ronaldo has spent the majority of his senior career in the Spanish capital, but now feels that it is time for a new challenge with another historic club in another country.
“I have reflected a lot and I know that the time has come for a new cycle. I’m leaving this shirt, this badge and the Santiago Bernabeu but they will continue to always feel part of me wherever I am” Ronaldo said in a long letter he penned addressing the fans of Real Madrid. “Real Madrid have conquered my heart.”
Florentino Perez, president of Real Madrid, will not have allowed his talisman to leave without feeling confident that he had a replacement of similar caliber lined up. Players like Eden Hazard, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Harry Kane have all been rumored to be that replacement. All that remains is to wait and see what Perez will do before the end of the transfer window.
