This wasn’t the Rangers team that was supposed to win tonight!
As a Yankees fan I have several grievances with the team, which I will list:
1) Stephen Drew cannot be the starter anymore. He didn’t even start tonight, but this is my canvas, and I will paint it how I wanna. With Rob Refsnyder tearing the cover off the ball in AAA right now, Drew should be riding the bench. While Refsnyder is known for his shaky defense, that just means he’ll fit right in with the current Yankees! Which brings me to my next point…
2) Stop it with all the errors. This team was supposed to be BETTER defensively than last year’s team, not worse! For whatever reason, the superbly talented Chase Headley has racked up a ton of errors already, while youngsters Gregorius and Pirela both look like, well, youngsters. These guys all need to settle down and start making the routine plays to give the pitching staff the margin of error they need. Which brings me to my last point…
3) The middle relief corps needs to follow in the footsteps of Betances and Miller. While those two have been lights out, everyone else in the bullpen has been awful. David Carpenter threw a shutout inning tonight for the first time in what seems like ever, so hopefully that’s a good sign of what he can bring to the table in the future. As for Justin Wilson and friends, the microscope is on you.

The Yankees look awful. The pattern of late: score in the first inning, have that lead last around four innings, blow it in the late innings. They are getting little to no production from their middle infield (Stephen Drew & Didi Gregorius), and arguably their most productive player (Jacoby Ellsbury) will be out for the next two weeks. All of their weaknesses were revealed today.
The good news? Masahiro Tanaka will be back soon. He has a rehab start with AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre tomorrow night, and shouldn’t need more than one or two rehab starts before he’s ready to rejoin the rotation. While the team is absolutely floundering right now, they are still in first place and there are reasons to be hopeful.

I’d be willing to bet Whitley’s elbow was the reason for his struggles early in the game. He looked visibly uncomfortable.
As for the hitting, time to wake up!

Oh yeah baby.
This series, literally filled with one-goal games, could not have ended any differently than an overtime showdown in Game 7. The Caps had intense pressure throughout the first half of the overtime period, and there were several moments with a tired and trapped Rangers line that I thought the game was over. However, the 2014-15 Rangers did what they do best - persevere and hold on.
This was no doubt a clash of epic proportions, with two defensive-minded teams and what may be one of the greatest goalie matchups of all time between “The King” Lundqvist and the youngster Holtby.
How the Rangers will fare against Steven Stamkos and the sharpshooting Tampa Bay Lightning remains to be seen. Old friends will clash: the Martin St. Louis/Ryan Callahan trade will play out in front of our eyes, and 2013-14 Rangers stalwart (and “V For Vendetta” mask lookalike) Brian Boyle will now be on the other side as well.
All I know for sure is that we’ve got even more great hockey ahead of us as fans.

Within my domain as an MLB reporter at The Sports Quotient I think this is one of the most important stories I’ve ever covered. This has literally NEVER happened before. Just let that sink in! I don’t have much else for you.
If you’re an Orioles fan and had tickets to the game, go try to trade them in for when the Yankees come to town on Fathers’ Day. If you’re a baseball fan, be sure to tune in at 2 PM tomorrow to gawk at the empty stadium.

I have no idea what the Braves are doing anymore, but I guess they really needed to clear some money? Getting rid of Upton is nice, but Craig Kimbrel is the best closer in the league and his contract is peanuts compared to what he brings to the table.
However, a losing team does not need an expensive closer. To me, this move means the Braves are accepting the fact that they will not be winning for a few years.

This is a win-win in my eyes for both parties. Kluber gets five guaranteed years, and the Indians get to avoid some potentially hefty arbitration years.

I thought the Twitter interaction between Corey Black and Pence was pretty awesome. I watched a pretty similar injury happen to Curtis Granderson when he was a Yankee in 2013, and he ended up getting hit again and breaking another bone in his arm. These things happen (sometimes twice!) but if the Giants want to defend their title and stop the “every other year” nonsense they’ve been doing for the past five seasons, they’ll need Pence back ASAP.
Hopefully this won’t bother him while he rides his scooter!
